Assistant PRO - SIERRA INTERNATIONAL AFRIQUE (S.i.A) As a recent graduate in communications with some experience in the fashion industry, I am excited to be on board at S.i.A Magazine, the first of its kind in Sierra Leone and, in fact, the world. At last we can now have a safe space where both modern and traditional, progressive and conservative African women can tell our own stories, solve our own problems and just feel proud to be ourselves. S.i.A Magazine is an Africa centered women’s lifestyle magazine featuring stories about how contemporary culture interacts with our traditions, fashion, style and arts. With topics that range from skin bleaching, transactional sex, polygamy and female circumcision, there is nothing that we consider too taboo to cover. S.i.A Magazine uses our unique narratives to educate ordinary young women in Sierra Leone, the rest of Africa and the Diaspora while entertaining them at the same time. The Magazine celebrates authentic African cultures and traditions, which for many of us women across the Sahara belt includes practices such as female circumcision. S.i.A Magazine is already known for empowering women and girls who are already circumcised to freely embrace who we are and to learn more about the traditions of our mothers and grandmothers. As we move into the 21st Century, S.iA Magazine will place greater emphasis on our digital platforms to better serve an increasingly younger audience that wants round the clock coverage of lifestyle tips, health and wellness information, as well as the latest entertainment news or celebrity gossip. Our team will stay abreast of the topics that appeal to young Sierra Leoneans and Africans generally. We will host several activities ranging from the Face of S.i.A beauty pageant, which commences this year, where women from different ethnic and religious backgrounds come together to compete for the only title in the world that celebrates African matriarchy. To encourage greater intimacy with our audiences we are also planning smaller events throughout the year such as Sunday brunches and cocktails as well as opportunities for young professionals to network. We are working with social media influencers and bloggers to promote messages of self – acceptance and self-worth and will host small panel discussions throughout the year. I believe young Sierra Leonean and other women in different countries are going to be very much interested in S.i.A magazine because it is the whole package: We offer intelligent, meaningful and inspirational features and news in areas that embrace and celebrate African women’s diverse accomplishments and aspirations. Be sure to “’like” our social media handles on Facebook or Instagram @ Sierra International Afrique ( S.i.A ) and join our journey in honoring ourselves as traditional and modern 21st Century African Women who know we are descended from queens.
