Yes, I am back and extremely excited it's International Women's Day. I made a commitment to myself to launch African Women Are Free to Choose website and grassroots fundraising campaign on this day and well, I'm only an hour late!!! It's been a great few years working with colleagues who are experts on the topic of female circumcision, making connections with affected women across the spectrum - those who consider themselves victims or survivors (even though they do not all agree with the term "mutilation" or FGM) and those who are ardent supporters of what to us is female circumcision - as well as networking with individuals and groups who are involved in related campaigns. Although I've had to delay and delay the next publication of SiA Magazine...it's been worth it!! So, here is the new AWAFC website, which is still under construction as well as the Ain't I a Woman gofundme campaign. It has taken nearly forty years and counting for the western constructed concept of FGM to take full form and spread globally, so we don't expect change overnight. But as the late Bob Marley admonished, "none but ourselves can free our minds...". This is just the beginning!!! Fuambai Sia Ahmadu, PhD [email protected]
